Paul compares Godâs life-giving messengers to that of gladiators in the arena.
In writing to the Corinthians he says, âFor I think that God has exhibited us apostles as last of all, like men sentenced to death, because we have become a spectacle to the world, to angels, and to men.â (1 Corinthians 4:9 ESV)
As the last event of the day, the gladiators who were condemned to death were brought into the arena as a spectacle for the excited crowd. The word spectacle comes from the Greek theatron, which refers to a theatre, or public show in which a man is exhibited to be gazed at and made sport of.
In this teaching series, we explore our critical roles as life-giving messengers of His-story, what it looks like to be servants and stewards of the mysteries of the Gospel, and we will be faced with the ultimate conclusion that what we do in life really does echo in eternity.
We have become spectacles in this world, yet shapers of eternity.
